When friends become lovers . . .

Firefighter and former Marine Jackson Wilder has tough guy down to an art, but he’s learned the hard way that promises were made to be broken. Abigail Morgan was once his best friend, his first kiss, his first love, his first everything. He’d just forgotten to mention all that to her and she blew out of his life. Five years later, she’s back and he’s battling a load of mistrust for her disappearing act. But for some reason he just can’t keep his lips—or his hands—to himself.

It can lead to disaster or . . .

When her stint as a trophy wife abruptly ends, Abby returns home to Sweet, Texas, and comes face-to-face with Jackson—her biggest and sexiest mistake. Time and distance did nothing to squash her love for the act-first-think-later stubborn hunk of a man, and when he suggests they renew their old just-friends vow, Abby realizes she wants more. She’d cut and run once. Could she do it again? Or could she tempt him enough to break his promise?

I may or may not have had a total fan-girl moment the second I picked up this book. Oh, who am I fooling? It was a total ear-plug inducing fan-girl moment. I adore Candis Terry. If I was brave enough, I'd show you a picture of us from RWA 2012. I adore her characters and stories. Yes, it is an all around love fest.

Sweetest Mistake sucked me in before I even started reading. My favorite type of romance happens when friends become lovers. The history and passion between the two characters are usually off the charts. So the second I saw the line "When friends become lovers..." in the blurb, I was a goner. I was not disappointed. I loved the tension between Jackson and Abby in the beginning of the book. A mixture of sexual tension and sexual frustration radiated off these two. The best way to describe Jackson is that he is a stubborn jackass. Everyone says that about him... Even his own brothers. And I loved that about him. He's so emotionally raw with the deaths of his brother and father, but he has such a big heart. I melted reading the scenes between him and his daughter. Like Jackson, Abby is also pretty emotionally wounded after being dump by her husband. Technically, she didn't love him, but the way he dumped her royally sucked. Jackson notices that she's changed, but being home again brings out her old self and she's back hanging around the Wilder family and driving Jackson insane. Watching Jackson and Abby was like watching a live wire, waiting it to spark. And boy do they spark together. *ahem...stairs*

As with every other Candis Terry book, there are a lot of crazy-ass, yet supportive, background characters. I loved them as much as I loved Jackson and Abby. Jesse Wilder had me swooning more times than I can count. Can't wait for his book... Jana Wilder is the perfect meddling mama. The character I adored the most in the book was Fiona. She's an amazing ex-wife, mother, and friend. There is a little hint of attraction between her and Jackson's friend. I hope she'll get at least a novella because the girl needs some lovin'.

As the second book in the Sweet, Texas series, I'd have to say it is my favorite so far. I loved the friendship and sexual tension between Jackson and Abby. I loved watching Abby torment the hell out of Jackson. The background characters added to the fun and I can't wait to meet Jake, the youngest Wilder boy. If he has a book, I *think* I know who he'll be paired off with and that'll be a fun one to read. Hell, all of the books in the Sweet, Texas series are fun to read. You rock, Candis! :)
