Codi Gary embodies what I love most about romances. I love the small town romance. I love two strong characters that love each other above all else. I love background characters that we'll continue to see until they've pestered the author enough for their own stories. Good Girls Don't Date Rock Stars had all of this and then some. I adore Codi's works enough to devour them in one sitting. By the end of the book, I was enamored with it.
Good Girls Don't Date Rock Stars is the story of Travis, Gemma, and the fate that brought them back into each other's lives. I had a love/hate relationship with Gemma. I admired her as a strong woman. With the support of her friends and family, she's an amazing mom to Charlie and a successful business owner. However, she sparked a little bit of anger inside me when she revealed that she kept Charlie's birth from his father, Travis. I am usually okay with a secret baby if the heroine has a good reason or she had no luck contacting the father. At first, I was not happy that Gemma kept Charlie from Travis, but after thinking about it and putting myself in her shoes, I started to understand her decision. She was a naive 18 year old that is scared of her father and just saw her boyfriend in a compromising position with another woman. Not only that, she also has raging hormones in her that obviously clouded her judgement. Over time, the news of Travis and his love life had to have played a big role in her keeping the secret until her past forces her to come clean. After I finished the book, I was firmly pro-Gemma. On the other hand, Travis had me at hello. Holy Mother of Pearl, the guy is sin-on-a-stick. When he finds himself finally married to Gemma there is no way in hell he's going to let her get away again. He will chase her and pester her until she crumbles and falls for him just as hard as he has for her. And he freaking loves every single moment of his torture. I loved watching the different sides of Travis. The side that adores Gemma and wants to make her happy made me swoon. The side that is fierce and fights for what is his gave me goosebumps. The side that adores Charlie enough to buy him a puppy made me sigh. I loved him...
What makes Codi Gary rock is her ability to make me fall in love with characters that we only see for a handful of chapters. Gracie and Eric... I'm looking at you! Oh, my gosh. Can I just say that I want a book for every single one of her background characters? Love them! I hope we can come back to visit Rock Canyon for many more books.
